Break Away is a DCA organization that sends Denison students on week-long community service trips out of state during the last week of winter break. Each trip focuses on a specific societal issue, and each trip’s issue is different, so no two trips are the same. Throughout the fall semester, each trip group meets once a week to learn about the issue in order to prepare for the community service work.
Students who wish to participate need to fill out applications early in the semester (look for us at the Activities Fair!); students at all levels of service experience and from all different organizations on campus are encouraged to apply.
Each trip group consists of twelve participants, and they are led by two trained student site leaders. Break Away is a great opportunity to meet and bond with other Denison students! It is also a great chance to experience life away from campus for a week.
Our organization is a chapter of Break Away, a national non-profit organization. Many of our site leaders and co-chairs have been trained at Break Away’s Alternative Break Citizenship Schools (ABCs).
Watch for notices about Alternative Break trips that will be happening over winter break next year!
